F2 Technologies, Inc. provides an affordable
alternative to currently deployed, infrastructure- dependent Automatic Meter
Reading (AMR) systems. F2 has a new approach to
AMR which we call our Data Acquisition Network (DAN). This DAN eliminates the
necessity for costly terrestrial build-outs and offers a phased approach to data
acquisition.
The unique method used by F2 uses an aircraft
to collect data rather than costly vehicles or unwieldy wireless overlays.
F2 developed and tested two types of airborne
transceivers, both of which have unique attributes. The first system tested in
June 1999 uses the 218-219 MHz band of the RF spectrum and has beneficial propagation
characteristics. The second system is a spread spectrum 2.4 GHz RF transceiver.
The 2.4 GHz system offers high data collection rates > 200 reads per second.
One of the keys to both systems' successful operation is their integration
with the next generation EPRI SE-240 digital electric meter. The EPRI SE-240
digital electric meter conforms to ANSI Standard C12.19 and C12.22 and is
manufactured by Powell Power Electronics Company, Pleasanton, CA and Global
Power Products, Snellville, GA.
